Recommended: The George at Youlgreave

We took a drive out into the country for lunch yesterday, a lovely little village in the Derbyshire Peak District, Youlgreave. We’ve been to The George a few times and it never disappoints, quality local home cooked food. Fantastic. At just over £20 for lunch and two drinks it’s not cheap, but not expensive either - just good value.

One thing that annoyed me is it seems yesterday was open day for all the local criminals as the entire Derbyshire Police Force seemed to be out on the roads or hiding in bushes with speed cameras. Maybe there isn’t any real crime committed on a Sunday in Derbyshire ?

Anyway, here’s some pictures of Youlgreave.

Heaven is an Active Humbucker

A few years ago my wife bought me a Gibson Flying V for Christmas. It was the faded ‘Special’ and while it played superbly I was never enamored with the the faded styling or the standard pickups. I have always lusted after a White model but they seem to be quite rare. As a 14 year old boy my father made me one which I used for several gigs. Embarrassing 1983 picture below.

So last year I took the V over to a professional guitar repairer in Stoke and had him paint it White and install a pair of Active EMG Humbuckers - an 81 and an 85. This guitar is now the perfect model for me. Plays like a dream, looks and sounds superb. I just need more time to play it Happy
